Why teach?
Hi all, my name is Serena Guardiola and I'm from Waco, Texas. I have always been someone who enjoys caring, serving and helping others, while also having a connection with kids I come across, which is what has drawn me to want to teach. Growing up I attended two schools, both schools have had a huge impact on shaping me into the person I am today in many different ways. At a young age I was privileged to attend an extremely small catholic based private school K-8th grade and a 5A public high school for the next four years after exposing me to a variety of people. Both schools were drastically different from one another in many ways from students to teachers who both played big roles in not only my educational experience but as well as shaping me into the person I am today. There are many factors that have played into why I've decided on teaching but a few of the main factors include seeing how income impacts students' school experience, how school can be an escape from home for some children and how one teacher/coach can really impact a student's life.
My Goals as an Educator
If I were to teach any grade of my choice, I would teach at an elementary level. The reason for this is so that I may be able to become an early role model for children, influencing them in a positive way, building their confidence at a young age in their fresh young minds. As a future teacher my goal is to create an upbeat, happy, caring and understanding environment for children to feel safe in as they grow alongside classmates. I believe that a person's childhood impacts you greatly as life goes on and if I have the chance for my classroom to be the only safe space a child has or can make the slightest difference in someone's life, I will feel successful as a teacher. Lastly, I'm looking forward to all the challenges, lessons and opportunities for growth this career has to offer and cannot wait to serve the community and its little ones!
